Artic 2003 Challenge - Ribworker D - Class

The 2003 Trans-Atlantic Arctic Expedition aims to set a World Record for the first ever crossing of the North Atlantic via the Arctic Circle in an 'open' Rigid Inflatable Boat. The record breaking Ocean Dynamics Ribworker 35 which was the first open boat to cross the North Atlantic. Built in 2003 at a cost in excess of £200,000 she has been re-conditioned post voyage and re-designed for greater passenger comfort!

Team Leader, Bear Grylls, chose Ocean Dynamics to build him a standard 'Ribworker D-Class hull but modified to carry an extra two tons of fuel below decks to enable non-stop journeys over the lengthier legs of the expedition, which begins in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 2nd August 2003 and ends at Thurso in northern Scotland via the Labrador Sea, Greenland and Iceland approximately three to four weeks later. The uncompleted craft shown at this years' London Boat Show in January and recently as the completed craft at 'Seawork 2003' in Southampton.
